Mikołajowice, Lower Silesian Voivodeship

Mikołajowice ( German: Nikol City ) is a village in the municipality Legnickie Pole in Poland. It is 12 km south-east of Legnica and is part of the powiat Legnicki in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.

History

In the village Niklas village four kilometers southeast of Wahlstatt 1340 gold deposits were discovered and begun to reduce in the year. 1345 rose Duke Wenceslas I of Liegnitz and his brother Louis I the location to the city and Niklas village received the same privileges as mountain Goldberg. However, the city rights by Niklas village were limited by the fact that the older cities of the Duchy of Legnica their market and Miles rights were confirmed on April 13, 1345.

Within a short time gained more and more influence in Legnica Niklas village. The dukes were in 1346 and 1352 yield the market and lap right at the rich Legnica from the financial granted in return. Already in 1364 was over the short time the mountain town Niklas village and the gold mines were shut down.

In 1500, the previous local name was changed to Nikol city.

Between 1404 and 1868 there were several unsuccessful attempts to take the gold mining again.

The city of Legnica, which belonged since 1464 and the Bailiwick and the estate since 1586, lost interest in Nikol city and exchanged the estate in 1622 against the Kammergut Greibnig ( Grzybiany ).

Instead of the gold mining industry of the place lived in the 17th and 18th century by the Steinbrecherei.

In the 17th century Nikol city lost its city charter and was Kirchdorf. The residents exercised no more urban occupations, only the community leaders called until 1945 as mayor.

Since the end of World War II, quartzite quarries are back in operation.

In 2000, a quartzite block has been set up with a commemorative plaque in place on the occasion of the 655th anniversary of the elevation to the mountain town.
