Milan Neralić

Milan Neralić, Michael Neralić, ( born February 26, 1875 in Slunj, Croatia, † February 17, 1918 ) was a fencing master. He was the first Croat who took part in the Olympic Games.

Neralić competed at the Summer Olympics in Paris in 1900 for Austria and immediately won the bronze medal ( saber fencing master ). He was only beaten in the semifinals by the Italian Italo Santelli. Neralić shall be construed as one of the first successful Croatian Olympian.

Neralić also had the rank of lieutenant in the imperial Army. He is considered one of the most important Austrian, as well as Croatian fencer.

Neralić was trained at the Theresa Military Academy. On K.u.k. Military fencing and gymnastics teacher institute in Wiener Neustadt was recognized his will and his pursuit of perfection in the art of fencing. He worked there from 1900 to 1908 and from 1914 to 1917 as the main fencing instructor. In between, he worked in Berlin, his assistant was there Hans Murero.

His most successful students was Richard spoiler with silver (saber team ) and bronze ( Foil ) at the Summer Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912.

Neralić spent most of his life in Berlin and Vienna. He probably died in Wiener Neustadt on 17 February 1918.
