Military Medal (Luxembourg)

The Military Medal was instituted at the suggestion of Prince Jean on October 30, 1945 Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg and is excellent for extraordinary merits and deeds to all military personnel are awarded without distinction of rank and without exception.

Stylish look and manner

Made from bronze medal round faces towards the left shows the portrait of the Grand Duchess with the inscription CHARLOTTE GRANDE DUCHESSE DE LUXEMBOURG. Under the head are next to each other to see three five-pointed stars. At the back the winning Luxembourg coat of arms and separated by the blazon year 19 40 ( occupation of Luxembourg ).

It is supported decoration, which is the highest military award of the country, on a blue ribbon with an orange central and edge strip on the left chest.

Since the Foundation was awarded the Military Medal only seven times:

  • Winston Churchill, British Prime Minister
  • Bernard Montgomery, British Field Marshal
  • Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Commander of the Allied forces in World War II
  • Prince Charles of Belgium, Prince Regent of Belgium
  • Charles de Gaulle, General and head of the provisional French government
  • Patrick Cassidy, General of the U.S. 8th Infantry Division

And to the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.
