Mindan

Mindan is an association of people living in Japan Koreans who feel attached to South Korea. It was founded on October 3, 1946 in Tokyo, and has indicated that about half a million members ( out of a total of 600000-700000 Koreans in Japan).

The Mindan is the counterpart to the Chosen Soren ( Kor. Ch'ongryŏn ), the association of living in Japan, Koreans who have stronger ties to North Korea. These and Mindan compete fiercely with each other, with cultural and political events, music meetings, festivals, home visit travel, tea rooms, restaurants and club venues, with newspapers, kindergartens and schools of all categories up to university.
