Mindy Baha El Din

Mindy Baha El Din (nee Rosenzweig, born November 1, 1958 in Chicago, Illinois, † March 18, 2013 in Giza, Egypt) was an Egyptian Herpetologin, eco- activist and environmentalist U.S. origin. Together with her ​​husband, the Egyptian herpetologists and ornithologists Sherif Baha El Din ( born 1960 ), they made ​​remarkable contributions to the protection of migratory birds in Egypt.

Life

After her graduation in Arabic and Economics at Indiana University Mindy Rosenzweig attended courses in field ornithology and devoted himself to bird watching. As a member of BirdLife International in 1988, she traveled to Egypt and founded a center for environmental education in the zoo of Giza. In 1989 she married Sherif Baha El Din. From this marriage two daughters were born. From 1992, the couple worked together as a freelance wildlife management consultant. They organized and led birding tours throughout Egypt, published educational materials, organized campaigns for the protection of migratory birds and studied the migratory routes. Mindy and Sherif Baha El Din were consultants in the conservation sector of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency. In 1994, she founded Tortoise Care Egypt, a group of international and local organizations and individuals that pursue the goal of a breeding program for the Egyptian tortoise (Testudo kleinmanni ), which is considered to be extinct in Egypt to build. 2005, they were among the founders of Nature Conservation Egypt, the Egyptian partner organization of BirdLife International.

On March 14, 2013 Mindy Baha El Din suffered a stroke, the consequences of which she died in a hospital in the early morning hours of March 18, 2013 at Giza.
