The Minija, German Minge, is a river in the countryside südkurischen Keklys ( Ceclis ) in the western part of Lithuania. The river has a strong Lithuanian relations gradient over the length of 213 km, it falls 180 m. It rises in the east of niederlitauischen highlands in Samogitian south of Telšiai and turns first to the passage of several lakes to about Kartenu to the west, then turns south and flows almost parallel to the Baltic coast to the south, where they border crossing at about Gargždai to Memel. She takes her way west to Ditava ( Dittauen ) and flows south through Priekulė ( Prökuls ), where the pitcher Minge 1511 certified as a pitcher " to Minnige ". Next, the river takes its course until Aukštumalo Pelke ( Augstumalmoor ). Here the Minge is 50 m wide and six to seven feet deep. The Taggraben directs the Minge in the estuary Atmata ( Atmath ) of Memel, which opens on wind Burger Corner shortly before the latter reaches the Curonian Haff. However, the Minge has its own Delta: Dobe Upeit ( Deep River ), UPES east (river port), Krumme East ( bushes port). Etymologically, the name associated with Main and means marsh ( cf. Latvian maina "swamp " )

1871 Minge was bridged with diagrams, 1892 in Baiten. About the King Wilhelm Canal, built 1863-1873, the Minija with the port city of Klaipeda ( Memel ) is connected.

Because of the gap, many sleepers and stones and the very unstable water level of the river is a challenging canoeing waters. Many (former) water mills require portages.
