Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (Netherlands)

The Ministerie van Landbouw, Natuur en Voedselkwaliteit ( LNV, German Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality ) was from 1935 to 2010 a Dutch ministry.

Areas of responsibility

The Ministry was responsible for four policy areas:

  • Agriculture and fisheries;
  • Nature conservation, outdoor recreation and national parks;
  • Food safety;
  • Rural development.

History

The LNV Ministry had existed since 1935 as an independent government organization, at that time under the name Ministerie van Agriculture and Fisheries (Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries ). Before 1935, the agricultural and fisheries policy was located in other ministries, only the Ministry of Interior, and later at the former Ministry of Transport, trade and commerce. After the Second World War, the LNV - authority was quickly expanded as a result of the increasing number of tasks, including the rationing of food and the reconstruction of agriculture.

In 1982, the Cabinet Lubbers I decided that the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is given responsibility for policy areas Nature conservation and outdoor leisure by the Ministry of Culture, Recreation and Social Welfare ( Ministerie van Cultuur, Recreatie en Maatschappelijk work ) via suitable.
