Mint (coin)

A mint is a government institution that has shaped course and commemorative coins on behalf of a country. A synonym abbreviation for Mint 's coin, which is reflected in the names of many Münzbetriebe.

German mints

After German unification in 1871 the right of coinage was of the individual German states to the Reich. Per Federal Council decision of December 7, 1871 uppercase letters of the alphabet were used as a mint mark - in the order in which the states were listed in rank to in Article 6 of the constitution. It was I left out because of confusion with J (which represented now Hamburg), 1 (one ) and I ( Roman one). The mint mark replaced the previous Münzmeisterzeichen.

Switzerland: Swiss Federal Mint

Swissmint in Bern is the official mint of the Swiss Confederation.
