Miralago

Miralago ( German: Lake ) is a small hamlet in the valley of Poschiavo in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland and belongs politically to the municipality of Poschiavo. Miralago was called until 1938 Meschino ( " poor ").

The village lies at an altitude of 965 m on the southern shore of the Lago di Poschiavo. The Church of Miralago was built in 1682. Miralago has a railway station of the Rhaetian Railway. The border between the municipalities of Poschiavo and Brusio runs right through the hamlet.

The ground on which the village stands, originated thousands of years ago by a rock fall, which dammed the lake. Originally, the lake level was tens of meters higher; the lake was enough to Poschiavo.

The heyday of the village in the early years of the 20th century, during the construction of the Bernina Railway. At that time there were in Meschino four restaurants and inns, now a hotel is still open. Since then, the population declined steadily: In the fifties of the last century still lived around 50 inhabitants in the city, today there are still about 20 people. 46.27330810.101126965Koordinaten: 46 ° 16 ' N, 10 ° 6 ' E; CH1903: 805203/128136
