Miriam Toews

Miriam Toews ( born 1964 in Steinbach, Manitoba ) is a Canadian author and freelance journalist. She lives and works in Winnipeg. She was awarded in 2008 for her novel The Flying Trautman among others, the Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize.

Life and work

Toews studied at the University of Manitoba and the University of King 's College in Halifax, and has worked as a freelance journalist for the press and radio. With her ​​novel A Complicated Kindness (2004), she became known internationally. The novel remained for over a year on the Canadian bestseller list and was awarded the Governor General's Award for Fiction, the most important literary prize in Canada, excellent.
