Mitja Ribičič

Mitja Ribičić ( born May 19, 1919 in Trieste, † November 28, 2013 in Ljubljana) was a Yugoslav politician of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia ( LCY ). After the collapse of Yugoslavia, he lived in Slovenia.

Biography

Mitja Ribičić was born in 1919 in Trieste, the son of the youth writer Josip Ribičić.

In 1941 he became a member of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia and soon the Osvobodilna frontal Slovenia. Together with Ivan Macek " Matija " he was a leading member of OZNA. In this role he was responsible together with Bojan Polak also for the establishment of the "concentration camp" for captured Domobranci, political opponents and ethnic German in Slovenia, including Teharje and the bearing Sterntal.

Ribičić was the successor of Mika Špiljak as Chairman of the Federal Executive Council (Prime Minister) of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ( SFRY) appointed on 18 May 1969. He held for two years until July 30, 1971 this office. Then Džemal followed him Bijedić.

Later he was between June 1982 and June 1983 as a successor to Dušan Dragosavac Chairman of the Presidium of the LCY. Successor was Dragoslav Markovic.

After more than eleven years of investigation, the Slovenian Ribičić prosecutor indicted in May 2005 for genocide. He was accused for the period 1945-1946 the mass murder of 234 alleged collaborators of the Nazi regime. However, it was decided to not sufficient suspicion and accusations were therefore not pursued in Slovenia.
