Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo

The Mitsubishi Ichigokan Art Museum (Japanese三菱 一号 馆 美术馆, Mitsubishi Ichigokan Bijutsukan ) is a museum in the Marunouchi district of Tokyo, which was completed in 2009 and opened on April 6, 2010. The collection comprises mainly 19th-century French art.

Building

The building is a replica of the original, built in 1894 " No house. 1 "( " Ichigokan ") of the Main Directorate of the Mitsubishi group in the Marunouchi district in Tokyo. The architect was acting in Japan Englishman Josiah Conder. The original building was demolished in 1968 and - like the other buildings also from the period - replaced with steel and glass structures.

With the restoration of the building as a concrete one followed the old plans, especially for the exterior facade of red brick, was for the time the whole neighborhood famous. Also inside is largely followed the old layout. Thus, the art exhibition on 20 relatively small spaces extends in three floors. The total area is 6000 m², the museum rooms occupy which 800 m². A number of details were reproduced, the banisters of the staircase. The building has two floors underground.

The museum regularly organizes exhibitions with additional loans. The museum also includes a café and shop. The backyard, created as a green area, invites you to linger.

The Collection

The collection is divided as follows:

  • Maurice- Joyant Collection (Former collection of Toulouse- Lautrec, 250 sheets).
  • Originals posters and lithographs in colors (100 leaves, including Bonnard, Gauguin).
  • " John and Unno Miyoko Davey " Collection (Porcelain, inter alia, in the style of Japonism, 180 pieces ).
  • Felix Vallotton: painting " park in the evening ", 180 woodcuts.
  • Important literature on the Japonism.
