Mitsuru Sakurai

Mitsuru Sakurai (Japanese樱井 充, Mitsuru Sakurai, born May 12, 1956 in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture) is a Japanese politician of the Democratic Party (Kan Group), Member of Parliament for Miyagi in Sangiin, the upper house of the national parliament, and " Vice Minister " the Ministry of Finance under the Cabinet Kan.

Sakurai graduated from the " Medical and Dental University Tokyo " and earned a medical doctor ( Hakushi ) at the Graduate School of Tohoku University. In 1996, he was medical director of a department of the central government Iwate Hospital in Ichinoseki.

In 1998, Sakurai turned to politics and joined ( two seats per election ) at the Sangiin - election in 1998 for the Democratic Party in Miyagi Prefecture and obtained with around 245 thousand votes the highest share of the vote ( 26.0 %). 2004 and 2010 respectively, he was re-elected with the second highest share of the vote, but a clear lead on the third placed. In Sangiin he dealt only health policy reinforced with external and fiscal policy issues. In the shadow cabinet of the Democrats in 2005 he was Shadow Minister for the financial sector. In Sangiin he was temporarily a member of the Budget Committee and in 2009 took over the chairmanship of the Economic Committee. In September 2010, he was in a reshuffle of State ( fukudaijin, " Deputy Minister ") in the Ministry of Finance.
