Ichinoseki, Iwate

Ichinoseki (Jap.一 关 市, - shi) is a city in southern Iwate Prefecture on Honshu, the main island of Japan. The city lies on the River Iwai and is to Morioka and Ōshū the third largest city within the prefecture.

The current city Ichinoseki was created by a merger of seven churches on 20 September 2005, today roughly corresponds to the previous circle Iwai. It borders the prefectures of Miyagi and Akita. Its population is approximately 125,000.

Geography

Ichinoseki located north of Sendai and south of Morioka.

The Kitakami flows through the city from north to south.

History

On April 1, 1948, the first city was founded under the name Ichinoseki by merger of two towns and two villages.

On January 1, 1955, the villages were Ganmi (厳 美 村, -mura ), Hagishō (萩 荘 村, -mura ), Maikawa (舞 川村, -mura ) and Yasaka (弥 栄 村, -mura ) incorporated to Ichinoseki. On September 1, 1956 Portions of the township were incorporated Hiraizumi, on May 1, 1964 were added to other parts of this community.

On 20 September 2005 the municipalities Daitō were (大 东 町, chō ), Higashiyama (东山 町, chō ) and Senmaya (千 厩 町, chō ) and the villages Kawasaki (川 崎 村, -mura ) and Murone (室 根 村, -mura ), all from the county and the city Higashiiwai Hanaizumi (花 泉 町, -chō ) of the district Nishiiwai part of the new city Ichinoseki. Thus, roughly doubled the population of the former city Ichinoseki, the area of the city area almost tripled.
