Miyazu, Kyoto

Miyazu (Japanese宫 津市, - shi) is a Japanese city in the north of Kyoto Prefecture on the island of Honshu.

History

Miyazu is an old castle town in which under the Tokugawa successively the daimyo Kyogoku (1600), Nagai ( 1669), Abe ( 1681), Okudaira (1697 ), Aoyama ( 1717) and finally from 1778 until the Meiji Restoration, the Honjō with 70,000 koku income resided.

On June 1, 1954 Miyazu received city rights.

Attractions

  • Within city limits Amanohashidate lies with the " sky bridge ", an attraction for tourists, who is regarded as one of the three most beautiful landscapes of Japan.
  • The temple Nariai -ji (成 相 寺), the 28th temple of Saigoku - pilgrimage.
