Mladen Ivanić

Mladen Ivanic ( Serbian Cyrillic Младен Иванић, born September 16, 1958 in Sanski Most) is a Bosnian politician ( PDP). He belongs to the Serbian community.

Life and career

Ivanic was born the son of a teacher in Sanski Most, but since 1971 has lived in Banja Luka. At the university he studied economics. In 1988 he received his doctorate in Belgrade. Since 1985 he worked as an assistant for his doctorate in 1988 as a high school teacher in Banja Luka, Sarajevo and at various foreign universities.

Ivanic is married and has two children. He speaks German and English.

Policy

1988, the non-party Ivanic was elected to the nine-member Presidency of the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 1999 he founded the conservative Partija demokratskog Progresa (Party of Democratic Progress ). To date, he is the Chairman.

From 2001 to 2003, Ivanic Prime Minister of Republika Srpska. In 2003 he was appointed Bosnian foreign minister. This office had Ivanic held until 2007.

Since February 2007 he has been a deputy in the House of Peoples, the second chamber of the State Parliament. By the resignation of his party from the coalition, he was chairman of the house. In addition, Ivanic is a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

In 2007, he ran unsuccessfully for the office of President of the Republika Srpska.

In June 2008, Ivanic was sentenced to a prison term of 18 months in connection with a corruption case relating to neglect his official duties. The judgment is not yet final.
