Mode 7

Mode 7 is a texture mapping mode of the Super NES console and the Game Boy Advance handheld. In mode 7, it is possible, among other things, to rotate and resize a background layer. Through a line by line change the position and scale, a simple effect of depth can be produced which is used mainly in racing games, flying sequences, or even walk-in cards. In contrast to textured polygons - as it allows the Super FX chip - but is merely the representation of a plane or curved plane to implement. Additional details or irregularities, such as hills or forests, can not be plastically represent, but only indicate by shading.

Mode 7 is described in some SNES and Game Boy Advance documents ( "technical docs" ).
