Mohamed Sheikh, Baron Sheikh

Mohamed Iltaf Sheikh, Baron Sheikh of Cornhill in the City of London ( born June 13, 1941) is a British entrepreneur and politician of the Conservative Party, which is a life peer member of the House of Lords since 2006.

Life

After schooling Sheikh worked as an insurance agent in the Sun Alliance Insurance Co 1962-1966, and moved in 1966 to Household and General Insurance Co, where he worked until 1969. During this time he was in 1968 a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, the national trade association of the UK insurance industry. Between 1969 and 1978 he was a member of Guardian Royal Exchange Assurance, before he worked from 1978 to 2009 for the independent financial services institution Camberford Law plc. During this time he was 1981-1982 and President of the Insurance Institute of Croydon and 1985-1987 Member of the National Council of the Chartered Insurance Institute. Between 1989 and 1990, Sheikh was once again working for the Insurance Institute of Croydon, this time as chairman of the life and pensions group.

Sheikh, who was the financial agent, manager and broker association in both 1991 and 1996 Member of the Committee, in 1995 Freeman of London between 1998 and 2002 and was Chairman of the British Insurance Association. Since 2003, he acts both as Chairman of the Sheikh Abdullah Foundation and as chairman of the Muslim Forum of the Conservative Party. In addition, since 2005 he is Chairman of the Council for Ethnic Diversity, an organization promoting the multicultural society in Britain.

By Letters Patent of 6 June 2006 Sheikh was raised as a life peer with the title Baron Sheikh of Cornhill in the City of London to the peerage. Shortly afterwards, was his introduction ( Introduction) as a member of the House of Lords. In the upper house he belongs to the Group of the Conservative Party.

Since 2010, Lord Sheikh is chairman of the financial services and insurance company Macmillan Sheikh plc. In addition, he currently serves as Chairman and Director of Courtlands Property & Investments Ltd, Lygon Property Investments Ltd, Iqra Ethical plc and a Director of Frazer McGill Ltd..
