Monaghan United F.C.

The Monaghan United Football Club is a football club established in 1979 from the city of Monaghan in the north east of the Republic of Ireland. Since 1985, Monaghan United play in the League of Ireland, but only up to five seasons always in the lower of the two Divisions, the First Division.

History

Monaghan is a rather unsuccessful club, mostly finished the club the seasons in the bottom half of the lower division, the First Division, often as second to last or last. Only two time promotion to the Premier Division. 1992/93 we finished third and was able to defeat in the subsequent relegation matches Waterford United. 2000/ 01 succeeded as vice-champion of the First Division of the direct ascent. But on the rise constantly followed the re- descent into the first or second season of excellence.

The final climb succeeded after the 2011 season, but had to Monaghan after 14 rounds of the 2012 withdraw due to financial problems, and in the coming season therefore relegated.
