Monica Ali

Monica Ali ( born October 20, 1967 in Dhaka, Bangladesh ) is a British writer.

Biography

Ali is the daughter of a Bengali father and an English mother. When Ali was three years old, the family moved to Dhaka from Bolton in the United Kingdom. Ali studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Wadham College, Oxford. She lives in London. With her husband Simon, a business consultant, she has two children, Felix and Shumi. In 2003, Ali's debut novel Brick Lane, who for the Booker Prize - has been nominated - the highest British literature award.

Brick Lane

The novel is named after the road that lies in the heart of the London district of the Bengali immigrants. It tells the story of Nazneen, a young Bangladeshi woman who at eighteen comes to London in 1985 and is married with man twenty years older Chanu.
