Monistrol de Calders

Monistrol de Calders is a municipality belonging to the province of Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain, and the district of Bages. The place is located in the southwest of the Plateau Moianès, near the Pla de Bages in Navarcles, Artés, and the mountain and Nature Park of Sant Llorenç del Munt, to the mountains la Mola and el Montcau belong. The parish is part of the Erzpriestertum Moianès and ( Diocese of Vic ). The place of jurisdiction and the financial management of the resort are located in Manresa.

It is a relatively young community, which was created only in 1934. Nevertheless, the desire for independence from Calders already goes to the 17th century back, and 1812-1835 there was a brief period of independence. The origin of the community Monistrol de Calders was the parish of Sant Feliu de Monistrol, one of the four parishes that belonged to the barony of Calder. The others were Sant Vicenç de Calders, Sant Pere de Viladecavalls and Sant Andreu de Calders. The last two lost importance and the population declined, while Sant Feliu de Monistrol grew and more residents recorded as Sant Vicenç de Calders. This was one of the reasons for the elimination of Calder in 1934.

Geographical information

The municipality is located in a rocky mountain landscape, characterized by high cliffs and dry riverbeds that fill with water during heavy rains. The predominant vegetation are various pine species in the Mediterranean region, holm oaks and bushes. There are numerous sources in the municipal area, once you recorded over thirty. In the village the river beds Golarda or de Marfà and the Torrent de l' Om open into the so north of the village gives the river Calder of Sant Joan.

Erosion a unique landscape with large rock overhangs, deep gorges and strangely shaped, giant rock was formed. Similarly, there is a dolmen, the Pla de Trullars, which was restored in 2005. From there one has a wonderful view over the massif of Sant Llorenç del Munt.

A particularly picturesque gorge is Gorgs blue, which owes its name to the bluish rock.
