Bages

The comarca of Bages is located in the province of Barcelona, ​​the Autonomous Community of Catalonia (Spain). The community association has an area of 1,287 km ² and 155 118 inhabitants (2009 ).

Location

The community association is located in the center of Catalonia. It is bordered on the north by the Comarca Berguedà, to the east by Osona, to the south of Vallès Oriental, Vallès Occidental and Baix Llobregat, in the southwest on Anoia and to the west by Solsonès. Together with the Comarcas Anoia, Berguedà, Osona, Solsonès forms the region 's territory Comarques Centrals.

Bages is located in the eastern part of the Central Catalan Depression. The Llobregat river and its tributary Cardener flow through the Comarca from north to south. In the middle of the region runs from northeast to southwest, the Pla de Bages ( Blages level), which is lined on both sides by hills and plateaus. The north borders the Natural Park of Serra de Sant Llorenç del Munt i l' Obac, in the extreme south there is the massif of Montserrat to the Monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat Benedictine.

Economy

Especially around the capital city of Manresa, a significant industry has settled. Factories of the chemical, metalworking and food processing industries have settled there. On the banks of the River Llobregat textile industry is located, on the banks of Cardener are Kalisalzminen. In agriculture, barley and feed are mainly grown.
