Cardener River

Source of Cardener

The Cardener is a small tributary of the Llobregat in Catalonia (Spain). Its source is in the Pyrenees, at Castellgalí it flows into the Llobregat.

River course

The source of the Cardener ( 1,100 m) is located in the municipality of La Coma i la Pedra in the comarca Solsonès (Lleida ). The place is located in the Pyrenees in a valley between the mountains Port del Comte ( 2,332 m) and Verd ( 2,271 m).

The catchment area of the river covers 1374 km ². This is located in the eastern half of the comarca of Solsona, the eastern part of the Comarca Berguedà and areas in the Bages and Comarcas Anoia.

Near the town of Solsona in the field of community Olius is the reservoir of Sant Ponç with a storage volume of 24 million cubic meters of water. The dam has a height of 46 m and was built already in 1921.

After 87 km the Cardener opens in Castellgalí near Manresa in the Llobregat. There are five wastewater treatment plants on the banks of the river.
