Segarra

The comarca of Segarra is a district in the interior of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia (Spain). In the history of the name Segarra covered a larger area than that of today's administrative unit.

Location

The community association is located in the center of Catalonia, east of the provincial capital, Lleida. It is bordered on the north by the Comarca Solsonès, on the west by Anoia, in the south of Conca de Barberà and on the east by Urgell. Together with the Comarcas Garrigues, Noguera, Urgell, Segrià Pla d'Urgell and forms the region 's territory Ponent.

The comarca is located in the eastern part of the central plateau of Catalonia, at 400-550 m altitude. The highest elevations are the Sant Salvador ( 854 m ) in the north and the Tossal de Suro (831 m) in the south. Segarra is located in the catchment area of the tributaries of Riu Segre, the rivers Llobregós, Sió and Corb.

Climate

The continental climate, with cold winters and hot summers tempered by the proximity to the Mediterranean something. Low rainfall (350 and 450 mm per year ) with dry periods in summer characterize the dry climate.

Economy

Agriculture ( wheat ) and livestock (pigs, poultry) determine the economy, and there are also a food processing industry.
