Monotyping

Monotype is a probably invented in the 17th century by Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione ( 1616-1670 ) method of fine art.

Instead, on paper or canvas is drawn or painted on glass, Igelit acrylic or metal plates and, as long as the paint is still wet, printed by the press or Handabreibung to the paper. This happen with a printing press, the trigger has a disk edge as a low pressure.

The art work is done as printing either by selectively applying the paint or by selectively on - or by pressing the print material such as a thin paper. The design is painted with wet paint on metal, made the trigger while the paint is still wet.

An alternative Monotypietechnik works as follows: In an absolutely uniform with a printing ink (for example, offset printing ink, the remainder in a printing available ) rolled in glass, stone or acrylic plate is a very thin paper is placed. On the top (actually back ) side of the paper the design is drawn.

It can be mapped out before placing it on the rolled- plate. The monotype ( " one picture " ) is thus clearly an original and can not be attributed to traditional printmaking, as the main feature of printmaking, the production of any number of ( almost ) identical pictures, is not given.

Not the printing form sets the scene, but the way how the color applied to a flat surface and is removed therefrom. The connection to the pressure diagram can be seen that the image surface is machined directly, but in an indirect way of working.

The monotype is therefore a combination of painting, drawing and graphics.
