Montenegro is a town with 59 110 inhabitants in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil. It lies about 80 km northwest of Porto Alegre. Adjacent are the places Triunfo, Nova Santa Rita, Capela de Santana, Pareci Novo, Sao Jose do Sul, MARATA, Brochier and Paverama. It was originally part of Montenegro Munizips Triunfo.

1909 Montenegro was connected to the railway line from São Leopoldo. The railway brought a significant surge in development in the whole region, for example, even after MARATA, Salvador do Sul and Barao. Extensions, there were 1932 and 1950, but it was closed at the end of the 1960s. Meanwhile, the station is being converted into a cultural center.
