Montezuma's Revenge (video game)

The title of the game refers to the colloquial term for traveler's diarrhea for travel to Mexico. Montezuma 's Revenge was one of the first platform games, it combines treasure and key searches in several maze- like arrangement of rooms.

Game content

The player controls a character named Panama Joe, moving it from room to room inside the Aztec Temple of Montezuma II, the latter being filled with enemies, obstacles, traps and other hazards. The goal is to collect gems along the way. Panama Joe has keys for doors and torches, swords and amulets find without losing his life. Obstacles are laser barriers, treadmills, vanishing ground parts and fire pits. The character can run, jump, shimmy on chains and slide down slide rods. Enemies are skulls, snakes and spiders. A further difficulty arises from the fact that the temple in its lowest floor is dark (or with increasing difficulty in higher floors), as long as no torch was collected.

The pyramid is nine levels deep, at the lowest level there is an exit to the treasury. There, the player has a few seconds to jump from chain to chain and collect the existing gems. When they disappear, it can reach by jumping to a sliding pole, landing in the starting room the next level of difficulty.

Successor

From Utopia Technologies 1997, a 3D version called Montezuma 's Return has been developed.
