Montmin

Montmin is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Montmin is 1045 m, north of Faverges, about 15 km southeast of the town of Annecy (air line). The mountain village is located in a high valley, which opens to the south, east of Lake Annecy, at the foot of belonging to the Bornes Alps Tour Nette.

History

The place was probably built in the 12th century shortly after the founding of the monastery of Talloires. The place name is derived from the Latin Montmin words monte medio (middle mountain ), but the recorded in old maps name Mont Mayri could point to a different, possibly pre-Roman origin.

Attractions

The very spacious for a small mountain village village church Saint- Maurice was newly built in 1848 in neo-classical style on the site of an earlier building. From the 17th century, the Monument and the Chapel of Sept- Fontaines in the hamlet plan Montmin come. The chapel of Le Bois was built in 1716.

Population

With 326 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Montmin one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Savoie.
