Moonspell

Moonspell is a Portuguese metal band from Brandoa in Lisbon.

Band History

Moonspell was founded in 1989 by Fernando Ribeiro as a black metal band under the name Morbid God. Until 1992, the band recorded some demos, until she found her style and was renamed Moonspell. In 1993 she published under a new name then the demo Anno Satanae.

In 1994, the band played together with Cradle of Filth at a concert in Lisbon, Portugal. Shortly after, she released her second EP Under the Moonspell. You signed a contract with Century Media and released her debut album Wolfheart that the breakthrough came in 1995.

With Irreligious appeared in 1996, the second album of the band. There was a single release as well as a music video that was shown on various TV stations. 1998 the third album of the band Sin / Pecado. That same year, Moonspell dedicated to her side project " Daemonarch ", under which they released the album Hermeticum.

Their 2001 release, the album Darkness and Hope, from which the single Nocturna was disengaged. On this album Moonspell coverte also the Ozzy Osbourne Title Mr. Crowley.

2003 album The Antidote, the number 4 in the Portuguese album charts appeared reached. 2005 joined the band a contract for three albums with SPV / Steamhammer. Their first release under the new label was 2006 Memorial, which reached # 1 in Portugal.

In 2007, the band released the album Under Satanae with new recordings of pieces of Under the Moonspell and Anno Satanae. Also, this album could be placed with space 43 in the Portuguese charts. Shortly after the release, the band played the entire album at a concert in Lisbon before 3500 spectators. Later that year, followed by an appearance at the Wacken Open Air in January 2008, Moonspell started with the recordings of the next album, Night Eternal. Niclas Etelävuori from Amorphis playing as it did to The Antidote a bass tracks.

Style

Moonspell began as a black metal band and then became a representative of the melodic Dark Metal or Gothic Metal. The singer and lyricist Fernando Ribeiro designated Moonspell in an interview as " [ one of the means ] to let people know that there is no God beside the man. " To the influences of the band include Bathory, root, Morbid Angel, Samael, Tiamat, Carcass, Fields of the Nephilim, The Cure and Metallica.
