Moraine Lake

The Moraine Lake ( also Lake Moraine, German " Moraine Lake ") is a glacier -fed lake in Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. It is located in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, a valley that is surrounded by ten peaks of the Wenkchemna Range, at an altitude of 1,884 m above sea level.

The highest water level reached the lake after the snow melts in late June. His milky emerald green color is caused by the particles of glacial abrasion, which reflect the light. Unlike most glacial lakes that are dammed by terminal moraines, the Moraine Lake was - created by the barrier of a huge rock fall - despite its name.

The area around the lake is developed for tourists with various hiking trails. The view of the lake from the so-called Rockpile is one of the most photographed scenes in Canada, which is also depicted on the old 20 - dollar banknote Canada by 1969.
