Morava Banovina

The Morava Banovina ( serbokroat. Moravska banovina, kyrill. Моравска бановина ) was one of nine Banats of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, which were formed on 3 October 1929. The capital city, de facto the provincial capital, Niš was. The Banovina consisted of the eastern Central Serbia, as well as smaller areas in Kosovo. They were named after the river Morava Banovina.

The main cities were Niš, Kruševac, Kraljevo, Jagodina, Zaječar, Negotin among others

History

The Morava Banovina was created in 1929 with the reorganization of the Yugoslav state from the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, under Alexander I.. After the attack of Hitler's regime to the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and the capitulation of Yugoslavia in 1941, the eastern part of the Banovina was awarded with Pirot Bulgaria, the vast majority came to the protectorate of Serbia. After the war, the Republic of Serbia was founded in communist Yugoslavia and formed as a federal republic, the Morava Banovina was not renewed.
