History

The company was founded in 1899 by William Morrison. The first contract for the sale of butter and eggs, was at Rawson Market, Bradford. His son, Sir Ken Morrison is currently the chairman of the company. Ken Morrison took over the company in 1952 by his father. 1961, the first supermarket was founded in Girlington district in Bradford. In 1967 the company went to the London Stock Exchange.

In 2004, Morrison, the British retailer Safeway plc. The company also owns the food factory Farmer's Boy in Bradford. In May 2005, Morrison took over the company Ratbones Bakeries, which supplies supermarkets Morrisons with bread.

The company is one of the four largest supermarket chains in the UK; in addition, there are the three competitors Tesco, ASDA (owned by Wal- Mart ) and J Sainsbury.
