Motojirō Kajii

Motojiro Kajii ( jap梶 井 基 次郎; born February 17, 1901 in Osaka Prefecture, † March 24, 1932 ) was a Japanese writer.

Kajii studied at Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo. As early as 1920 when he was diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis. In 1924 he founded with friends the literary magazine Aozora, where he in 1925 his short story Remon (柠檬) appeared. Under the same title was published in 1931 a collection of short stories. 1932 Kajii succumbed to his illness.

During his lifetime, Kajii was hardly known, although the famous Kawabata Yasunari frequently expressed appreciation for him. Today he is considered one of the masters of the Japanese short story.
