The Mount Iliamna - also Iliamna Iliamna Volcano or - is a 3,054 m high active stratovolcano in southwestern Alaska, USA.
Location
It is located in the Chigmit Mountains, a link between the Aleutian Islands and the Alaska Range on the west bank of the Cook Inlets, 215 km southwest of Anchorage.
60 km southwest is the eponymous Lake Iliamna Lake.
Description of the volcano
It is a typical stratovolcano constructed in the upper part of layers of andesite. Here, lavas alternating with pyroclastic materials from. The different layers are particularly receptive to the 600 m high steep walls of the south and east.
The underground form of granite Aleutian batholith and even older volcanic rock strata that have their origin in the Bruin Bay Rift.
The Iliamna is considered active and is therefore controlled. In about 2740 m height are fumaroles.
Conservation
The glaciated volcano is located in Lake Clark National Park.
1976 Mount Iliamna was designated as a National Natural Landmark.
