Mount Mageik

Mount Mageik (left) and Mount Martin ( right)

The Mount Martin is a 2165 m high stratovolcano of the Aleutian Island chain on the Alaska Peninsula. He belongs to the Katmai National Park and limiting the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes in the south.

There are no confirmed records of historical eruptions. A possible eruption of 1946 is now being questioned. However, the recent volcanic deposits date from the Holocene. At a young crater on the northeast flank today sulphurous volcanic exhalations in the form of fumaroles can be determined.

The volcano is covered by volcanic ash, which originates from the eruptions of Novarupta (1912 ) and Mount Trident ( 1953).
