Mount Pelion East

The Mount Pelion East is a mountain in the center of the Australian state of Tasmania. It lies on the eastern edge of the Cradle Mountain - Lake St. Clair National Park and is 1,446 m height of the sixteenth - highest peak in Tasmania, slightly higher than the more familiar Frenchmans Cap. Unlike the Mount Pelion West, Mount Pelion East is not a massive mountain, but has the shape of a pointed turret, which is due to massive glacial erosion thousands of years ago.

Location

The network coordinates in UTM coordinate system UTM Zone 55S 225 655 loud and high-resolution topographic map (1: 25,000 ), there are of Tasmap. To the west lies the Mount Pelion West, north of Lake Ayr, in the east of the Curate Bluff, part of the Cathedral Mountain Range and south of the Mount Massif. The mountain consists of diabase and the lower slopes are low scrub ( Scoparia ) covered. About a kilometer away from the summit runs the Overland Track; the branch is located approximately in the middle between the Pelion Hut and the Kia Ora Hut.

Access

The mountain can be reached via the Overland Track from Cradle Mountain from mainly during the high season (November- April). During this time the use of the trail is only permitted from north to south, must be booked and charges. In the off- season is also access from the south, from Lake St. Clair, is possible. Another possibility is the combination of the access arm Rivertrack and Innes track that runs alongside Lake Ayr and in the Pelion Plains meets the Overland Track.

Rise

This mountain can be climbed from the Overland Track from which ( 1,126 m) through the Pelion Gap.
