Movement (music)
As a sentence is referred to in classical music, a self-contained part of a multi-part musical work such as a suite or a symphony. Most of each sentence is given a so-called set name, the tempi and character (eg, " Andante ", " Allegro con brio " ) or the type of sentence (eg Minuet, Scherzo ) specify.
The difference resulting from the different sets block sequence is often applied to high contrasts. Typical set of consequences:
- Baroque Suite: Overture - Allemande - Courante - Sarabande - Menuet I / II - Gigue
- Classical symphony: Allegro - Adagio or Andante - Minuet or Scherzo - Allegro or Presto
