The Botnica is an Estonian multipurpose icebreaker, which is used in winter as an icebreaker in the Baltic Sea and in the summer as a provider for offshore installations. The hull and the drive are optimized for the icefall, the structures are similar to those of a supplier.
The ship was built in 1997/98 on the Finnish shipyard Aker Yards Finland for the Finnish Maritime Administration. Establishments was the first ship of the Finnish Shipping Enterprise ( Finstaship ) and today, bereedert of the Arctia Offshore OY, a company of Arctia Shipping OY. The drive is diesel-electric. In the short large generators are built to generate electricity. The two drive motors drive pod system that are mounted aft under the ship and controlled independently of each other. The bollard pull is specified with approximately 117 tons.
