Muazzez Ersoy

Muazzez Ersoy ( born July 9, 1954 in Kasimpasa, actually Hatice Yıldız Levent ) is a Turkish singer.

Biography

Her father Yaşar Levent came from the city of Edirne and was a taxi driver in Istanbul. Her mother Fatma Levent worked in a box factory.

Muazzez Ersoy married in 1975 and gave birth to her first son Ender on the world. The marriage, however, was divorced again soon. After the divorce, she earned her living as a worker in a cosmetic company. She also started taking music lessons.

Career

In 1983, she began to act as professional singer - initially under the name Hatice Yıldız, later as Muazzez Ersoy. In 1990, she sent a demo recording to the TRT and was taken thereupon by Elenor Plak under contract.

With their first album " Seven olmaz Ki ", which was released in 1991 and sold over 400,000 copies, she managed a successful debut.

In 1994, Ersoy her own record label under her real name, " Levent Müzik YAPIM ". The following " nostalgia albums" were very successful. Particularly noteworthy is the 1998's " Nostalji 4-5-6 ", which is with 3,500,000 units sold, one of the most successful albums of Turkish music history.

Overall Muazzez Ersoy sold from 1991 to 1999 over 11,500,000 albums, making it the most successful artist of the 1990s in Turkey. The Turkish Ministry of Culture awarded her the title of 1998 Sanatçısı Devlet ( State artist ). In 2006 she became Goodwill Ambassador ( Goodwill Ambassador ) of the UNHCR.
