Muggendorf together with armed mountain at the heart of the market town Wiesenttal in Franconian Switzerland, Forchheim district.

Geography

The village lies on the Wiesentfels to 304 m above sea level. NN. After this place used to be called the Franconian Switzerland also Muggendorfer Gebürg. Nearby there are numerous caves, which are also known as Muggendorfer caves. These include, inter alia, the Rosenmullerhohle that Oswald cave, cave wit, the Cave of Wonders and the doctors cave.

History

Muggendorf was around 1248/49 first mentioned when it came to the castle Neideck. Until 1347, as Conrad II died of key mountain, the gender of the key Berger held the right of patronage. 1507 or 1508 sold George of armed mountain Muggendorf to the Margrave Frederick II of Brandenburg- Ansbach. As part of the Principality of Bayreuth Muggendorf later became Protestant during the Reformation.

From 1922 Muggendorf was a station of the Wiesentfels Valley Railway. So you could go by rail over Ebermannstadt to Forchheim. The scheduled operation was opened in 1930, in 1976 the line was closed.

In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria Muggendorf was incorporated on 1 January 1972 along with other villages to the market Wiesenttal.

Pumpkin parade

Of particular interest is the so-called pumpkin parade, which takes place for Thanksgiving every year. In addition to the parade at noon, there is another, smaller parade after dark. The children of the village and the surrounding villages wear elaborately carved, illuminated pumpkins from the inside through the village. The carving is part of the curriculum of the elementary school Wiesenttal.
