Muhammad Ali Samatar

Mohammed Ali Samatar (* 1931) was a general of the Somali army and an important member of the government in Somalia under Siad Barre. He was Minister of Defense from 1980 to 1986. From 1 February 1987 to 3 September 1990, he was the first prime minister of the country, since Barre in 1969 in the wake of a military coup comes to power and this office was abolished.

Samatar now lives in Fairfax ( Virginia). 2004 ranged several Somaliar using the organization Center for Justice and Accountability in the U.S. lawsuit against him, since he was responsible for extensive human rights violations of the Somali army in the 1980s.
