Muhammad Rafiq Tarar

Muhammad Rafiq Tarar ( Urdu محمد رفیق تارڑ, Muhammad Rafiq Tarar DMG, born November 2, 1929) was President of Pakistan from 1 January 1998 to 20 June 2001.

Life

During Pakistan 's independence in 1947, Rafiq Tarar voluntarily worked as a laborer in a camp of Muslim Students Federation for refugees, who had immigrated from India. Muhammad Rafiq Tarar graduated from the Islamia College in Gujranwala in 1949. In 1951 he secured his degree in law at the " Law College " in Lahore.

Profession

In 1951 he had to register as a defender and register in October 1955 as a lawyer in the High Court of Lahore. After his graduation, he founded a law firm in Gujranwala. He was also District and Sessions Judge, supreme judge of the district. In 1971 he became Chairman of the Punjab Labor Court ( Labour Court ). In October 1974, he was involved as a judge of the Lahore High Court and 1989 then Chief Justice ( Chief Justice ) of the same court. Previously, during the time of the Judges of the Lahore High Court, he served as a member of the Pakistan Election Commission. Rafiq Tarar was elevated in January 1991, a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, of which 65 years he retired in November 1994.

President of Pakistan

Nawaz Sharif brought him back out of retirement and Tarar was elected in 1997 for the Pakistan Muslim League ( PML) in the Senate. In the same year he was elected on December 31, the President of Pakistan. During his presidency, Tarar was mainly a figurehead.
