Muhammad Sharif

Muhammad Sharif ( * 1920, † 2004) was an industrialist in Pakistan and father of two leading politicians: the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the current Chief Minister of Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif.

Biography

Sharif Mian Muhammad Sharif was born in Amritsar Butt (now Indian part of the Punjab ); but the politically influential family moved to Shopian in the Kashmir valley. With his 6 brothers Muhammad founded in 1939 a foundry. After Pakistan's independence in 1947 Sharif emigrated there. His holdings were the nucleus of the steel group Ittefaq (which was nationalized in 1972 to 1980 ) and Sharif largest industrial tycoon in the country.

In the politics involved him especially his sons Nawaz and Shahbaz. Muhammad Rafiq Tarar His friend was from 1998 to 2001 Pakistani President. Sharif died in October 2004 in Jeddah, his son Nawaz is now the head of the corporate empire.
