Mumble (software)

Mumble is a free voice conferencing software, which is suitable for low latency and good audio quality, especially for use in parallel to online games.

Functions

The software implements a classical client-server system. The client Mumble provides a graphical interface for conversations and administrative ready, the server, which is called " Murmur ", implemented the back-end through which run the talks.

The client runs on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and iOS. The server can be compiled and run on almost any system. The only requirement is that Qt 4.0 will also be compiled. However, a resource-saving server named uMurmur which is Qt does not presuppose and especially suitable for use on routers, but some functions are not dominated exist.

The software takes advantage of the free audio codecs Constrained -Energy Lapped Transform ( CELT ) and Opus the Xiph.Org Foundation. To ensure compatibility with older clients, Speex is provided for decoding. Mumble utilizes the skills of codecs for echo cancellation and noise reduction.

Other functions are:

History

In September 2005, the first alpha was released 0.1, the following beta phase was completed on 15 July 2007 with the release of version 1.0.0. On 10 December 2009, version 1.2.0 was released with many new features and improvements. The current version, 1.2.5, was released on February 5, 2014. There appear regularly new snapshot versions that fix bugs and introduce new features.
