Munich Chamber Orchestra

The Munich Chamber Orchestra is a professional orchestra based in Munich, with currently 26 permanent musicians (15 violins, 4 violas, cellos and two double basses 5 ). The position of concertmaster share Giglberger Daniel and Esther Hoppe.

History

The Munich Chamber Orchestra was founded by Christoph Stepp 1950. Hans Stadlmair was the Artistic director of 1956 until 1995. From 1995 to 2006 Christoph Poppen was the artistic director of the orchestra. Since the season 2006/ 07 is Alexander Liebreich, Chief Conductor and Artistic Director. The parent company of the orchestra is the Prince Regent Theatre in Munich.

In November 2012, the Goethe Institute initiated a joint project between the musical Munich Chamber Orchestra and students of Kim Won- Gyun College of Music in Pyongyang, which was accompanied by Liebreich.

Program

The subscription concerts in Munich's Prince Regent Theatre follow each season a thematic guide. The repertoire of the Munich Chamber Orchestra comprises besides classical works and contemporary music ( partially premieres ). For this alignment, the Munich Chamber Orchestra has been found in recent years, international recognition. An integral part of the subscription series concerts are without a conductor under the direction of one of the concertmaster and cooperation with specialists in Early Music. The orchestra regularly collaborates with guest conductors.

Since the 2003/2004 season, the Munich Chamber Orchestra has launched in the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, a new concert series, which is dedicated under the title "Night of Modern Music" the work of a contemporary composer. Also initiated Alexander Liebreich three new formats: the Munich AIDS concert, the " carte blanche ", which is awarded at irregular intervals to famous personalities of the world of culture and the "concert sauvage " in which neither the program nor the soloists are anticipated announced.

New Music

The orchestra will award each season several commissions, which in recent years to Erkki -Sven Tüür, Martin Jaggi, Thomas Larcher. Even composers such as Iannis Xenakis, Wolfgang Rihm and Jörg Widmann have written works for the Munich Chamber Orchestra.

Tours

The ensemble is also on tour and guest performances with around 60 concerts per year throughout the world. Since 1995, the Munich Chamber orchestra performed eg in the United States, China, Japan, Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Some concert tours took place in close cooperation with the Goethe Institute, most recently on a tour of five concerts in South Korea in spring 2007.
