Munnar ( Malayalam: മൂന്നാര് Munnar [ mu ː n ː ɑ ː r] ) is a town in the Western Ghats in Kerala, India. He is known for him for miles surrounding tea plantations and therefore a popular tourist destination. It is a hill station, which was a popular retreat for Europeans as early as the colonial period.
Geography
Munnar is at the confluence of the rivers Muthirappuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly. The name Munnar was therefore derived probably from the Malayalam words Munu (three) and aru (river).
The Panchayat Munnar has an area of almost 557 km ² and is the largest panchayat in the Idukki District. He belongs to the Devikulam block.
The nearest major railway stations are Ernakulam and Aluva ( approximately 110 km of road ). The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport 105 km away.
