Muppets Tonight!

Muppets Tonight! is produced in the 1990s successor mission of the Muppet Show. It was developed by Jim Henson's son Brian Henson and Frank Oz. From the broadcast 22 episodes were produced.

Content

While the Muppet Show was a Varieteeshow, Muppets Tonight was! a late-night show. Due to the death of Jim Henson and Richard Hunt many dolls that they played were removed or placed in the background. So Kermit was a sort of behind the scenes producer, and host of the show was the new character Clifford. As with the previous mission also joined in each show at least one guest star, and some have several.

Waldorf and Stalter not commented on the events from the audience, but from the living room or other places where they watch the show with a mini TV.

New characters

  • Clifford: a violet doll that was by accident moderator. When no one volunteered wanted to report to the moderator and all ran out, Clifford the phone with his girlfriend. Since he remained the only, Kermit appointed him moderator. He is a casual guy who says that whatever happens, you will have fun doing. An older Clifford doll is briefly seen in the music video She drives me crazy by Kermit and Miss Piggy.
  • Rizzo the Rat: came for the first time in the movie The Muppets Take Manhattan before. In Muppets Tonight! he is Clifford's assistant.
  • Johnny Fiama: A pop singer, a parody of famous singers like Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. In an episode where Tony Bennett was a guest, Johnny said that he was a fan of him and was asked to sing in the finale with him a duet. Johnny is always accompanied by his bodyguard, the monkey Sal, which refers to him as his best friend, but sometimes has to suffer under Johnny's selfishness.

The series aired for two seasons between March 8, 1996 and 8 February 1998. The first ten episodes were shown in 1996 at ABC, the other 12 in the Disney Channel 1997/98. BBC1 radiated from the series in the UK. In addition, translations followed into Finnish, Portuguese and French.
