Murad V ( born September 21, 1840 in Constantine Opel, now Istanbul, † August 29, 1904 ibid ) was dated 30 May 1876 to 31 August of the same year Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.

Life

Murad was the eldest son of Sultan Abdülmecid. His mother was sevk - Efza Sultan, who came from the Caucasus; probably it was Georgian. When his uncle Abdulaziz took power, Mehmed Murad Efendi was, as it was called at that time, excluded and imprisoned, as he rejected the plans of the new sultan amending the succession of all public affairs. After the deposition of Abdulaziz on 30 May 1876 ( see Midhat Pasha ) he was freed by a mob of soldiers of the Young Turks from prison and declared Sultan of the grace of God and the will of the people. After only 93 days, he was again deposed because of his mental weakness and replaced by his younger brother Abdulhamid II. Until his death Murad was then held at Ciragan Palace. He was buried near his mother's grave in the Yeni Mosque.

Sultan Murad V was very well trained and influenced by Western culture. He ruled for example French and settled deliver books from France.
