The Murrayfield Racers were established in 1952 as a Murrayfield Royals Hockey Club of the city of Edinburgh in Scotland.

The Racers were 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1972 British champion, winning in the season 1986/87 and 1987/ 88, the championship of the British Hockey League. They played from 1982 to 1995 in the Premier Division of the league. In addition, they won seven times the Northern League (1970, 1971, 1972, 1975, 1979, 1980 and 1981) and the 1993 Benson & Hedges Cup.

Mid-90s was from the Murrayfield Racers the Edinburgh Racers, which was renamed a year later in the original club name Murrayfield Royals again. As the successor to 1998, the Edinburgh Capitals were established in Edinburgh who currently play in the Elite Ice Hockey League.
