Museo Nazionale della Magna Grecia

The Museo Nazionale della Magna Grecia or Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Reggio Calabria is a museum in Reggio Calabria in Calabria in southern Italy.

After the earthquake of 1908 Paolo Orsi wanted to merge the existing Museo Civico and the State Collections with the finds from archaeological researches in Calabria. It was findings of the research of the past 160 years. There were find from the excavations of the Duke of Luynes and up to the excavations of Paolo Orsi it.

The museum building is located in Reggio Calabria on the Piazza De Nava. It was designed in 1932 by Marcello Piacentini and completed by 1942. Because of the war, the building could not be used. In 1954, the museum was opened. The building has a square base and four floors. Since 1981 there is the issue of archeology under water, since 1982 an exhibition of artefacts from the colonies in Calabria.

Basement

Ground floor
